I have been writing my food nonsense for a while now…and not actually posting it. I don’t have a real reason. I just didn’t feel ready. Still don’t. But fuck it. Let’s do this.

To start, a smattering of transcriptions from my tattered leather book. It turned 10 years old this year. It is the reason this site exists.

I want a fig tree…and a lot of counter space.

I hope I remember to reevaluate this bold statement in a year and a month to follow the pattern.

Roasted pepper and and black bean soup

1 large or 2-3 small servings

  • soak beans overnight (1/2 cup)

  • roast 1 red, 1 green, and one poblano pepper and peel (in this instance they were refrigerated for 3 days)

  • put beans on low burner with just an inch or two of water above beans and a splash o’ olive oil

  • cook a while

  • throw in some onion (about 1/4 large) and any bell pepper laying around (5 or 6 strips of green pepper cut for dipping in creamy sauce) and the roasted peppers and a couple cloves of garlic

  • cook a while longer

  • add a small bunch of cilantro and some salt and pepper

  • blend

  • stir in some cream (1-2 tbsp)

  • probably need more salt

Turns out a horrid color. —> top with some sour cream or salsa and some bright, distracting red bell pepper

A whole bunch of cilantro? Really? Seems like a lot. Also, who soaks 1/2 cup of beans? 2009 was a wild year.

One more page? Yeah. One more page.

Idea: Strawberry balsamic tiramisu

—> soak lady fingers in balsamic reduction

—> use same cream as regular tiramisu

—>top with smashed strawberries

Well…they can’t all be winners, can they?

There was also a business card for Cedar Mesa Pottery on that page.

You can’t unread this.
